Wander through the Seattle Japanese Garden was a delightful experience and a wonderful way to spend a cool Seattle morning.

Upon entrance, I was greeted with a peaceful path and the sound of water trickling from an unseen stream.  A few different types of flowers are scattered in the distance, with bright green ferns intermingling with the trees.

Growing up, there were four Azalea bushes lining the walkway to my home; every season there would be a burst of dark pink, white, and purple colored flowers. This was the first time I’d seen an Azalea with pink and white striped flowers; it was quite a lovely experience.

I was struck by the beauty of this tree, and the rough bark peeled to reveal the smooth, new growth of the trunk underneath. I was reminded that we are ever-changing and evolving; each person is made up of layers, each slightly different from the last. The shedding of old skin and experiences have forged us into the new and beautiful people we are growing into.

Rarely do I come across little streams, but the quiet lapping of the water and slow movement of the yellow flower created a beautiful moment for contemplation.

These Japanese Water Irises had such a vibrant purple color which was only further accentuated by the green of their stems.

This photo was taken as I stood, perched on a nicely placed stone bench. The peace in this picture is further punctuated by the water, with its slight ripples from the bugs dancing above the fish and the shifting shadows from the sun’s eminent setting.  As I write, my mind brings me back, and I can almost feel the cool air kissing my skin; this location will always hold a place in my heart.

On my way out of the garden, I heard some rustling; a glance to my right revealed a little squirrel scratching at the ground. I stooped down, watched the little creature hunting its dinner, and determined it was time to also find a little snack.
