Sometime in February, I pronounced to my husband, “This is the year! This is the year we grow our own food!” My husband, being the city-type, looked at me a little confused, but agreed to help where he could.
It took until about April to get everything sorted, but finally, I have my little garden.
To begin, we picked up a few potted plants: tomatoes and bell peppers – I wanted to try my hand at growing from seeds, so I planted cucumbers and kale from seed in the hope that they would take.
The fist to bloom was my bell pepper plant – the littlest pepper you’ve ever seen!
The cucumber seeds took and sprouted shoots and leaves – we left them in the pot to mature a bit to ensure they survived after I transfer them into a raised bed …
The dino kale is adorable at this size – reminds me of baby Groot! This is actually one of my dog’s favorite snacks, so hopefully, she’ll stay out of the garden 🙂
To complete my salad garden, I have a single tomato plant. If all goes well, this one plant should provide my little family with enough fruit to last the summer.
How are you enjoying the great outdoors this summer?
